United Way of Greater Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey: Consulting on Best Strategies for Program Practice and Self Assessment

United Way of Greater Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey is targeting youth in the 100 lowest preforming schools in the region with warning signs of potential drop out (including frequent absences, negative behavior marks, and course failure in core subjects). 

NIOST is assisting UWGPSNJ in creating and revising their Eight Elements of Effective Practice a “best practices” document for program staff and mentors to help guide them in producing positive youth outcomes.  This document will use both NIOST’s Links to Learning as well as the Philadelphia Education Fund’s Early Warning Response System Toolkit as guides. NIOST has also worked with the United Way to produce self-assessment guides based on UWGPSNJ’s Program Quality Rubric (PQR) assessment tool, and provided in-person training and technical assistance to mentors and program staff using the PQR for both external and self-assessment purposes.
